Environmental Variables Associated with Imminent Zebra Mussel Infestation in Alabama

Objectives/Abstract:
The objective of this research is to document the environmental variables associated with imminent zebra mussel infestation in Alabama. Factors that may limit the spread of the zebra mussel in southern waters are uncertain. This study will help to document those variables along with the expansion of the zebra mussel's range in Alabama.

Methodology:
Zebra mussels will be sampled at 10 different high risk sites in Alabama. Sampling will be for veligers, settling juveniles and adults. Water quality variables will be documented at the sampling locations. Other reported zebra mussel sightings will be verified and water quality variables measured at those sites.
